CORROSION is known to cause severe damage to assets, cause accidents, reduce life, increase costs of operation, reduce productivity, and profitability.
Corrosion is a very complex and highly interdisciplinary phenomena involving materials, electro-chemistry, thermo-mechanics, reaction kinetics, design, manufacturing, surface engineering, geo-environmental conditions etc. Due to advancements in corrosion science and engineering, several techniques are now available to predict the rate of corrosion and mitigate the effect of corrosion.
In the Indian context, the losses due to corrosion in energy sector alone are estimated to be in the range of 3-5% of GDP. There is a need and scope for R&D, innovation, and development of technologies for corrosion mitigation.
It will be a national priority to:
Train & sensitize people in various aspects of corrosion & corrosion mitigation.
Provide platform for exchange of ideas, share experiences, learn from industry peers.
Encourage collaborative R&D projects between industries, innovators, start-ups and academics in problem solving mode.
Objective of the event is to
Knowledge Sharing in latest trends in corrosion related R&D, corrosion mitigation technologies by experts.
Experience sharing by industrial peers from different sectors of industry about:
corrosion related problems faced,
solution methods and approaches developed and implemented,
Bring together all stakeholders involved in corrosion.
Asset owners, operators.
Researchers, academics, R&D organisations.
Innovators, start-ups
Providers of corrosion solutions (protective coatings, Paints, cathodic protection, Inhibitor development, etc).
Explore opportunities for collaboration between industries, academia, and researchers, in technology development, R&D, and solution oriented consultancy services etc.
Identify gaps in science based understanding of multi-disciplinary areas of corrosion.
Symposium will be centered around all aspects of corrosion in multiple industrial sectors. Core idea is to exchange ideas about corrosion problems and mitigative measures and learn from experiences of different sectors. Discussions in the Symposium are centered on following themes.
Defence (Naval, Land based, airborne)
Oil & Gas (Upstream, Refineries, Pipeline)
Power Plants (Thermal, Nuclear, Renewables)
Petrochemicals
Chemicals & Processing Industry
Fertilisers & cement Plants
Heavy Engineering Industrial Equipment
Corrosion issues in industrial sectors
